Abstract
Carcinomas of the parotid gland are rare pathologies, representing between 14 - 25% of parotid tumors. It usually manifests in the nasopharynx, however there are few reports on involvement at the parotid level, corresponding to less than 0.4% of malignant tumors of the salivary glands. The case of a 62-year-old man is presented with the presence of a rapidly growing tumor in the left cervical region, with frequent bleeding and ulceration. The pathological diagnosis of intermediate grade lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the parotid was made. This type of carcinoma is associated with the Epstein-Barr virus in endemic areas, in contrast to non-endemic areas, where there is no frequent association. Treatment consists of complete resection followed by adjuvant radiotherapy, with a 5-year survival between 50-87%; which emphasizes the importance of timely diagnosis and targeted treatment.
