Rhinophyma: Medical and Surgical Management. Case Reportand Literature Review
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Rhinophyma is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by sebaceous gland hypertrophy and connective tissue changes that cause progressive deformity to the nasal aesthetic unit. It is more frequent in men and may be associated with erythema, telangiectasias, and nasal obstruction in advanced cases. Management usually combines medical therapies and surgical procedures, such as CO2 laser and reconstructive interventions. Case series: We present six patients with rhinophyma evaluated by dermatology and otolaryngology services, who received combined management according to disease severity. Treatment included retinoids, ablative and non-ablative lasers, and structural rhinoplasty as the surgical intervention. Discussion: This multidisciplinary combined approach allowed correction of both aesthetic and functional impairment, optimizing remodeling of the nasal soft tissues and promoting comprehensive patient recovery. Conclusion: Medical and surgical therapies represent an effective strategy for the management of rhinophyma, with a positive impact on nasal function, aesthetic appearance, and quality of life.
