Abstract

Introduction: Idiopathic subglottic stenosis is a rare condition that occurs almost exclusively in women between 20 and 60 years of age. Its cause is unknown. It is a narrowing of the laryngeal lumen at the cricoid cartilage in the upper airway. Idiopathic subglottic stenosis is a rare condition of unknown etiology, and its incidence has not been established to date. Clinical case: A 75-year-old female patient with progressive inspiratory dyspnea was observed after nasofibrolaryngoscopy, revealing a narrowing of the subglottic-tracheal lumen. Imaging tests and surgical management were performed. Discussion and conclusion: Subglottic stenosis is a rare condition notable for its low frequency in the field of otorhinolaryngology and head and neck medicine. It is accurately diagnosed after imaging tests and biopsy, requiring surgical treatment.
